#LOOKS: STEVE, HEIR OF SLYTHERIN

Fashion

By: Steven Underwood

Crappy Camera quality and grimaces are all a part of College Life.

I guess it started with a comment. Sorted into Hufflepuff with the release of the Pottermore test, I’ve always expected to get the normal flack most people throw:

Ha ha, you’re in the useless house!

Aren’t you guys, like, the “special” case wizards? Like the high needs student organization on campus?

I never expected the sideway glance of everyone and the astonished confusion in a: “Huh, you should retake the test, you’re clearly a Slytherin 🐍”

I wanted to be insulted, but they’re right. From my attention to cunning, ambition, viciousness and abandon to collateral damage in my pursuit of Honesty, I do evoke the very visage of a Slytherin. Since then, I’ve noticed my clothing choices have swung away from a neutral Fall coordination and right into an provocative inclusion of sharper colors of agile and ferocity: of Emeralds and Teals. Specifically, my interview attire (seen below) is something that channels the cut throat calmness of a Lawyer: an energy that says murder isn’t something i like or dislike, just something I have to do on Tuesdays

Maybe I should retake that test, and just accept the tact my compassion might be dwindling as I age.

Thick Dad Bod, But Make It Fashion — Slytherin.

CEO and Creative Director for the Pan-African inspired boutique, No-Tribe Clothing, Prince Marcus London introduced the premiere ensembles for his “Prince Collection” this last month with a vibrant take on classical west African garb and textiles.

The much-anticipated collection from the highly lauded line borrow the Afro-inspired aesthetic of full-body patterns layered with the spontaneous color combinations the great American aesthetic. The collected looks count the Hieness Royal Shirt amongst its number, capturing a detailed aberration across its thick clam white fabric. Never to be outclassed, the outerwear includes the Palace Coat, a tantalizing black-and-white winter jacket complete with a comforting, evenly geometric pattern, and the Royalty Jacket, an elegantly Versailles inspired golden lined bomber kissed either with a brilliant crimson-or-black trim.

Take a look at the collection above and tell us friends what you think!

Rhianna’s Versatile Style Explodes in New WILD THOUGHTS Video

Articles, Culture, Fashion

By: Steven Underwood

This morning, Snapchat Sage, DJ Khaled, Real-world Mystique, Rhianna and Bryson Tiller debuted their video to their instant hit, WILD THOUGHTS and set a commotion across Twitter that is sure to top Summer playlists everywhere as a hit. While many are speaking about the genius sampling of MARIA MARIA’s guitar solo, a ballad during the 90’s brilliant dalliances into Latin Pop, even more are noting the subtly vibrant styles of Rhianna.

The Multihyphenated-singer-songerwriter-styler-setter, Rhianna shoulder shimmies and groves across the screen in a passionate pink tone complete in a Latin inspired ensemble: tantalizing with an off-the-shoulder pink sheer crop, beautiful floral-inspired bottoms, rose patterned headscarf, pink shades and dangling golden earrings, invoking the clandestine seduction of Carmen herself. Seductive, yet highlighted with a bombastic street aesthetic the entire way, furthering the sentiment that the seduction of the flower begins and ends in the heart of the ghetto culture Black girls were scrutinized for almost a decade back.

The Empress of Style changes her look maybe once the entire production. And to what you may ask? A simple strapless dress in a sorrowful blue that showed legs longer than Tiller’s feature. She was complete only by her bracelets of beads and silver, inch-long ruby nails, and an effortlessly primal stage presence. A dominate ambiance that’d send a puritan spiraling in their grave: praise be Rhianna.

If anything , WILD THOUGHTS further proves that there is no look Rhianna cannot dominate on her way to the top of American Fashion Iconography.

“Why Compete, When You Can Collaborate?”

***

Retro fashion and textiles have a miracle when threaded together. Asante Shakirah, a fashion student at Centenary University, began Clouded Vision Apparel in 2015 as a vintage fashion boutique. Her store features fashion that pulls back the clock to a time of flamboyant pattern and extravagant color over the high-end fashions involved with the current era of online stores.

Her boutique houses over 30 different sets from “The Little Black Dress,” on Sale for $15.00 to the “African Tribal Print Tank” on Sale for $15.00.

Affordable is Asante’s goal. As a stylist, she understands the importance of clothes that bring fourth the inner miracle and mind of the women, combining class, wit and vibrancy with the retro introspective of a modern age. Despite this, Asante’s clothes draw heavy inspiration from an afrocentric aesthetic including savanna tans to a tribal ambiance about her fabric and illustration. Clouded Vision Apparel carries culture on its back and into its brand a spiritual hymn.

Asante’s inspiration possibly comes from her work as a stylist, an artist of aesthetic. As an artist, her perspective is excellent and she uses this perspective to create sets, outfits and looks that she sees accentuating the ideal of the women she hopes to wear her work. An ideal of sharp sentimental confidence. Aesthetics and brands that are dedicated to helping women stand out among the crowd in a uniquely familiar way.

As a stylist, found publicly through her Instagram handle (Stylesbya.s,). she operates freelance in the New Jersey/New York/Pennsylvania region with a willingness to travel. Asante can best be reached by social media or email at StyledByAsante@gmail.com.
